Congestion Costs Billions for Canadian Cities

Study Unveils Economic Impact of Traffic Delays

Annual Losses Estimated at $3 Billion or More

Traffic congestion is a major issue in Canada's largest cities, costing the country billions of dollars each year.

A new study released by Transport Canada estimates that congestion costs Canadians at least $3 billion annually. The study looked at the nine largest urban areas in the country and found that congestion costs ranged from $0.9 billion to $4 billion annually.

The study also found that congestion slows economic productivity, raises the price of consumer goods, damages health, creates pollution, and lowers quality of life.
